Steven de Peven is PiPS:labs multi talented musician, host with the most and man of ideas. The creator of bizarre, hilarious and moving characters, this lovable friend with linguistic skills in true Flemish style is an all-round swell guy.
- The Beginning
Steven is born on Christmas Eve 1974 in the Belgian town of Leuven. His Flemish family moves to the windy north of Holland in 1982. There, surrounded by the musical talent of his family and inspired by his uncle’s drive-in shows and the early 80's graffiti movement he grows up to become all round artist Steven de Peven. At the age of 20 he decides to abandon an education in graphic design in favour of his turntables. Since then he’s embraced a wide variety of musical styles: jazz, latin, soul, gypsy, electro, disco, techno, house, hiphop, whatever is good music and classical.

Steven settles down in Amsterdam in the mid-nineties, making a name for himself with regular nights at clubs like Vaaghuyzen and the Mazzo and starting his own record label's Zephons Mom. The label releases records by various artists such as Mocky, Aardvarck, Kid Sublime and Samuel Pling. Steven also sets up the electro-orientated Klakson label during this time together with Steffi and Dexter.
In his role as master and host of festivities Steven shows a keen eye for talent. His regular club nights feature artists like the now famous Zuco 103, kid Sublime, Chili Gonzales, Peaches, Mocky and others that he cooperates with for his label. One of the acts on Stevens regular nights is his crew PiPS:lab. He gives them the opportunity to experiment with installations and guerrilla-acts. A new family is born. His club nights are not the only way Steven uses his DJ skills, for a while he’s also the resident DJ for the New Cool Collective.
- Rednosedistrikt
Together with Kid Sublime and Aardvarck, Steven founds Rednosedistrikt, a DJ/producers collective. Cooperating with Rushhour, Kindred Spirits and Dox Records they’ve put out three albums and a range of 12-inches and remixes.
- Aanwijsstokjes (Pointers)
Besides his full-time commitment to PiPS:lab and his activities with Rednosedistrikt, Steven de Peven is also an ambassador for Aanwijsstokjes (Pointers).
